Snaps and scribblings from an over-enthused, ever-enchanted inquisitor of the natural world.

Introduction

A keen amateur naturalist from a young age, I now work as a Ranger in North East England, for a large conservation charity.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by wildlife and nature. I can vividly recall some of my earliest encounters with the natural world, whether it be playing for hours with tiny froglets in my grandparents’ garden, dissecting owl pellets at the age of seven - brought home from work for me by my dad, or being startled by a sparrowhawk perching on the back garden climbing frame. As a child, none of my friends, to my knowledge possessed these deep curiosities, the constant desire to learn more, the infatuation with anything wild. As I have grown older, I seem to have somehow surrounded myself with people of this like. Those who share my invested passion in nature and propel it to new levels.

No matter the path I have ventured down in my life, the burning draw of nature’s wonders has never dwindled. As a youngster, I always craved the return of spring after a long winter. That burst of new life and colour still has the same effect on me to this day. It is just the most incredible spectacle and nature at its most prolific. Nothing beats it.

Fast forward a (good) few years and I find myself in a position I never deemed possible. Working in conservation is a dream come true. It never feels like work, it is a hobby, an obsession, a privilege. But the love of nature doesn’t stop when I sign off for the day. It is always there. Hence the creation of this site! Its intention? A celebration of natural history, magical wildlife interactions and a place to express a perpetual love of mother nature.

Join me as I share diverse experiences with the wild through my personal blog writing and photography. Think rolling hill rambles, woodland wanders and endless discoveries from daily life as a Ranger. If I can provide but a little inspiration along the way for you to immerse yourself in our incredible British nature just a smidgen more; whether it be by book, lens or just your own senses, then nothing would make me happier. After all, nature is infectious.

Welcome to The Ranger Diaries.
